Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘getting closer and closer’ to leaving Juventus, according to reports from Italy. Manchester United are linked with a sensational move to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford. The Portugal superstar is said to have ‘given up’ at Juve following their below-par season on the pitch.

Ronaldo has not scored in his last three matches for Juventus.

The Old Lady are set to miss out on the Serie A title for the first time in 10 years.

They were also knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage by Porto.

One of the main reasons Juve signed Ronaldo was for him to lead them to European glory but he has been unable to do so in his three seasons in Turin.

Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport claim the 36-year-old is currently ‘nervous’ and ‘irritable’ and is being distant with his team-mates.

They claim Ronaldo has ‘given up’ at Juve and is edging closer to an exit.

Ronaldo’s mood has got considerably worse since the loss to Porto in March.

The report says a return to United is an option for the former Real Madrid star.

Earlier this week, TuttoMercatoWeb claimed Ronaldo had begun discussions over a two-year contract with the Red Devils.

Despite turning 36 in February, Ronaldo has still maintained an impressive goal record this season.

He has scored 32 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions and is closing in on 100 for Juve.

Ronaldo left United in 2009 for a then world-record fee of £80million.

He scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for the Red Devils before joining Real Madrid.

Former United ace Luke Chadwick believes his old club should pursue Ronaldo if the opportunity arises.

Chadwick has no concerns over Ronaldo’s age and still believes he can ply his trade in the Premier League.

“If United had the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo they’d be foolish to turn it down,” he told Caughtoffside.

“We’ve seen Cavani, who’s slightly younger, the impact he’s had. Ronaldo’s kept himself in great shape over the years, so I’m sure he’d still offer a huge amount.

“What he’s done at the club, he wouldn’t have to win too many fans over.

“It would be exciting to see him in the Premier League, but it’s probably quite a long shot really.”
