January represents an opportunity for Chelsea to get their Premier League title bid back on track after a difficult run of results in December.
Three top-flight defeats last month has piled the pressure on boss Frank Lampard, who has been forced to defend under-pressure striker Timo Werner.
The Blues have an opportunity to bounce back to winning ways when they host Manchester City on Sunday, while a defeat will raise concerns over the standard of Chelsea's current squad.
And with the transfer window now open, Lampard will be keeping a close eye on developments as he attempts to bring silverware back to Stamford Bridge this season.
Ahead of that game, here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours….
Blues 'open talks' with Donnarumma
It seemed Chelsea solved their goalkeeper crisis when they swooped for Edouard Mendy in the summer.
But despite Mendy's impressive start under Lampard, the Blues boss is reportedly keen on bolstering his ranks and has made Gianluigi Donnarumma his No.1 target.
The Italian stopper, 21, is out of contract at AC Milan at the end of the season and is also wanted by Serie A rivals Inter Milan and Juventus.
According to The Sun, the Blues have got in touch with the keeper's agent Mino Raiola over a potential move in the summer.
Giroud eyeing January stay
Olivier Giroud has given another update over his short-term future at Chelsea – and it's good news for Blues fans.
Giroud has struggled for regular football under Lampard but he has still managed nine goals so far this season.
His bit-part role in west London has raised doubts over his future but the Frenchman is happy to remain at Stamford Bridge – for now.
Speaking to Sky Sports , he said: “Obviously, I am very happy with these numbers. I am the happiest man when I am on the pitch
“We will see what happens in the next few months but I just want to keep my efficiency high. When I am not on the pitch, I just try to be a part of the team.
“I really want the best for this team and I really believe we have a big opportunity to win something at Chelsea with this great squad. I will just carry on like this and try to keep it up.”
Lampard's hints over Chelsea exits
Chelsea boss Lampard has hinted there is likely to be more movement out of the club than into it.
As attention turns to the January transfer window, there is plenty of talk over new faces arriving at Stamford Bridge.
But the boss expects fringe players to leave Chelsea this month and said "We have a big squad and we'll see if that changes.
"Are there opportunities for players who aren't playing so much? That will be a conversation between player, club and myself.
"And then we'll see if we can strengthen in the right way, but we're not jumping up and down to do so. My focus this year is purely on work because we have young players."
