Chelsea could have 11th transfer for Mauricio Pochettino blocked by Brentford
Emile Smith Rowe could make Chelsea transfer after failing to meet Mikel Arteta demand
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino could reportedly see his transfer plans thwarted by Brentford with just two days until the summer window closes. The Blues have already welcomed 10 new players to Stamford Bridge but it seems as though at least one more deal could be done ahead of Friday’s deadline.
Chelsea are reportedly keen on a move for Sporting winger Marcus Edwards, who has thrived in Portugal since leaving Tottenham four years ago. The 24-year-old has emerged as a key player for Sporting in recent seasons, fuelling speculation that a return to England could soon be on the cards.
However, there is a possibility that Chelsea’s hopes could be dashed by Brentford in a significant knock-on effect that would cause problems for the Blues. Sporting have identified Bees forward Mikkel Damsgaard as a potential replacement for Edwards if the latter moves on before the end of the window, according to The Mirror.
A move to Sporting for Damsgaard would potentially free up Edwards to join Chelsea, although it is said that Brentford could decide to block the Dane’s exit with so little time remaining until Friday’s deadline. This would create a difficult situation at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea likely needing to pay over the odds to sign Edwards.

It remains to be seen whether the Blues will eventually firm up their interest with an official bid, although Pochettino said on Tuesday that he would not be too disappointed if no further signings are made before the summer window closes. However, he did suggest that Chelsea will be looking to pounce if the right opportunity arises.
“At the moment, all the players in our squad are in our plan,” said the Chelsea boss. “I know the club is working hard to finish our business. Can something happen? Maybe yes. At the moment I am only working and letting the club deliver what we want.”
