Chelsea ace Nicolas Jackson produces miss of the season contender
Chelsea V Nottingham Forest: Pictures
Nicolas Jackson produced a miss-of-the-season contender during the closing stages of Chelsea’s defeat to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge. The Blues forward was given a golden chance to bag a late equaliser following Anthony Elanga’s opener for the visitors, but he managed to blaze over the crossbar from just a few yards out.
Forest took the lead just after the break when Elanga found the bottom corner after being played through by Taiwo Awoniyi. Chelsea responded by throwing men forward in a bid to draw level and were finally given the chance to hit back when the ball dropped at Jackson’s feet in the closing minutes.
The 22-year-old was inside the six-yard box and only needed to divert his shot on target to score, with Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner nowhere to be seen. However, Jackson somehow managed to scoop it over the crossbar, sparking loud groans of frustration from the Stamford Bridge crowd.
Paul Merson was among those to have been left baffled after watching Jackson’s failed attempt live on Soccer Saturday. The former Arsenal man was almost lost for words as he stuttered: “Wow, can’t believe it… oh my god!”

Jackson’s miss is likely to be one of the worst that will be seen in the Premier League this season, especially given the context of Chelsea hunting an equaliser in the last few minutes. The elusive goal never came for the Blues, with Forest holding on until the final whistle to claim a huge three points at Stamford Bridge.
The result added to Chelsea’s dire start to the campaign, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side having won just once in their opening four matches. They already sit three points adrift of the Premier League’s top four and will need to hope for their new signings to gel quickly in order to start putting things right.

Chelsea registered 21 shots against Forest but only two of them were on target, with the visitors producing a number of timely blocks to keep things tight at the back. The Blues ultimately failed to do enough to warrant anything more than a defeat and Mauricio Pochettino was visibly frustrated as the clock ticked down, putting his head in his hands on the touchline.
There were jubilant scenes in the away end at Stamford Bridge upon the final whistle, with Forest manager Steve Cooper celebrating wildly in front of the travelling Reds faithful. It was in stark contrast to the mood amongst the Chelsea fans, many of whom left before the end of the match after being left frustrated with yet another disappointing performance.
