Champions League chaos as entire team stop playing – but goal isn’t disallowed
There was chaos in the Champions League as Shakhtar Donetsk netted a controversial goal against Porto.
It was all on the line in the Group H clash on Wednesday evening, as Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk met with both sides level on nine points and the winners progressing to the knockout rounds. After Porto took an early lead, Shakhtar controversially pegged them back.
Oleksandr Zubkov was played in down the right-wing, only for the linesman to raise his flag, but the referee ignored his assistant. Porto players slowed down as Zubkov advanced, unchallenged, and squared the ball to Danylo Sikan – who slotted home.

While Clive Allen added: "The referee waved play on. When we saw it there, I didn’t think the first one was offside. Could it have been the second? No, the checks have been done."
Porto, however, put the setback behind them and they got the job done at the Estadio do Dragao – beating Shakhtar 5-3 on the evening. Porto will now be playing Champions League football in the New Year, while Shakhtar will drop down to the Europa League.
