Carragher calls out Guardiola over 115 charges after City boss’ six-minute rant

Jamie Carragher has responded to Pep Guardiola’s brutal comments about him failing to win a Premier League title.

Manchester City manager Guardiola let rip at Sky Sports pundits Carragher, Gary Neville and Micah Richards on Tuesday. The Spaniard delivered a passionate six-minute rant defending his team from criticism after their 3-3 draw at home to Tottenham.

Guardiola took issue with the pundits claiming that there may be growing complacency in the City squad. And he dismissed suggestions that City might not win a record fourth successive Premier League title by firing a savage dig at Carragher.

Guardiola said: “Gary Neville knows how difficult it is otherwise he would've won four Premier Leagues in the best period of Manchester United. But he didn't do it. Maybe they accuse us of complacency because they felt complacency (at United). Maybe they felt it. This team so far, no chance.

“Jamie Carragher didn't win one (title). Micah Richards didn't win four Premier Leagues in a row. Never, ever. It's never happened.

“I don't have anything to say about the pundits, honestly. It's not about that (complacency). Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think it's about complacency.”

But the Liverpool legend has since hit back, taking to X to poke fun at the manager’s comments. Specifically, Carragher took aim at City being charged by the Premier League with 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations in February.

Carragher tweeted: “I think I'd have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times!

“I was actually praising Pep's team after the game on Sunday,” he added with a laughing face emoji.

It is understood that a conclusion to the allegations will not be reached until the end of next season. That is also when Guardiola’s contract with City runs out.

The process has reportedly seen statements being taken from witnesses in a confidential process which will continue until next spring. Should a trial go ahead according to plans, the verdict could be reached in the summer of 2024.
