Bruno Fernandes shows true colours as Man Utd star Alejandro Garnacho told off
Bruno Fernandes showed what kind of captain he is at Manchester United by telling off Alejandro Garnacho for the way the winger celebrated his goal against Galatasaray. United headed to Istanbul in need of a win and got off to an excellent start when Garnacho gave them an early lead.
The 19-year-old wheeled off to celebrate in front of the home crowd, gesturing with his hands for them to calm down. He was soon joined by his team-mates in celebrating by the corner flag, but Fernandes changed the mood quickly when he apologised to the Galatasaray fans for the way Garnacho celebrated.
Cameras then picked up Fernandes having a go at the teenager and the United captain’s message got across to the others there too. Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat could also be seen apologising in a clear sign that Fernandes’ words carry some weight with his United team-mates.
The Portuguese superstar then showed what he’s capable of on the ball with a stunning strike to double United’s lead.
But United were twice pegged back by Galatasaray as the tie ended 3-3 with United remaining bottom of their group with one game left. Fernandes had his leadership style questioned recently with Roy Keane calling for the midfielder to be stripped of the armband due to his behaviour against Manchester City.
The Portugal international defended his style though insisting he didn’t need to change. “Obviously you don’t like to be criticised, everyone’s the same, but at the same time I have to do what I think is the best for my team,” Fernandes said this week.

“Probably I am not always right but in my head at the moment it is the right choice, so I do it. My focus is on the team, the staff, everyone who works with me day by day.
“I think they are pretty happy with me, the way I am is the same since I arrived at the club, it has not changed since being captain. I don’t think it has to change.
“I am really open with everyone so no one until now has had a problem with me, so I think I should keep it like that, everyone is pretty happy with my leadership.”
