Britain’s worst football team has a -191 goal difference and midfielder aged 73

Cwm Albion Football Club have been crowned 'Britain's Best Worst Team'.

The side who play in the Swansea Senior League have been going for 100 years after being founded in 1912. However, they have not enjoyed their football in recent seasons.

Last term, they shipped a monstrous 200 goals, losing all of their games, finishing up with a goal difference of minus 191. One away match in particular saw them thumped 25-0.

And with results like that, it's easy to see why goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald has not kept a clean sheet in 10 years. They are also fielding a 73-year-old, John Rees, in midfield too.

However, thanks to Specsavers, things could all be about to change for Cwm. Recently, the Welsh club were named 'Britain's Best Worst Team' by the glasses company, with Cwm featuring on their YouTube channel. 'The Best Worst Team' is an initiative to help grassroots football teams who need a bit of a helping hand.

"Specsavers 'Best Worst Team' is all about giving back to a grassroots football team and it's community," said ex-Lionesses star Jill Scott, who narrated the first episode of the Cwm series on their YouTube channel.

"We were looking for a team in desperate need of help. It's not only their defence that's leaky, wait until you see the home pitch." But despite the horror show results, and the staggering number of goals they've conceded, boss Dan Gill still believes the club means a lot to both himself and the others.

"Despite the knock-backs, each week we turn up and put our hearts into every game, and we lost 10-nil the other day so that says a lot," explained Gil. "I’ve been involved since I was 16 and my dad, Colin, has been part of Cwm Albion for more than 50 years. We really are a family."

Having won the competition with Specsavers, Cwm will receive a training session from a yet to be revealed Premier League star. And Specsavers' head of consumer communications, Lisa Hale, also says she can't wait to try and help Cwm celebrate their first victory in a very long time.

"It's obvious how passionate Cwm Albion are about the game," said Hale. "So really can't wait to get behind them and hopefully with our support they will have a victory to celebrate soon."
