Barcelona have been linked with Neymar again in recent times, with reports suggesting Joan Laporta is in contact with the 29-year-old’s entourage about a potential return to the Nou Camp. And, now, PSG’s viewpoint on the Brazil international has emerged ahead of the summer transfer window. The forward was majestic on Wednesday night, shining in the club’s 3-2 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Barcelona lost Neymar to PSG back in the summer transfer window of 2017.

The Samba star decided to quit the Nou Camp having grown frustrated at being stuck in Lionel Messi’s shadow, despite their close relationship.

Neymar came close to returning to Barcelona in 2019 but, in the end, the La Liga giants snapped up Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid instead.

Now, talk of the Brazil international moving back to Catalonia has started to gather momentum again.

It’s been recently claimed that the PSG star is stalling on a new contract, with his current deal scheduled to run out in 2022.

And, what’s more, Barcelona president Laporta is said to be in contact with the PSG star’s camp about a blockbuster switch at the end of the season.

Now, however, the Telegraph report that PSG are optimistic over announcing a long-term contract with the Brazil international.

It’s claimed that, two summers ago, Barcelona were worried about Neymar’s contribution to the team and whether he was giving maximum effort.

Yet those concerns ‘evaporated’ as the club reached the Champions League final last year, with Neymar playing a key role in their charge towards the showpiece event.

Now, PSG believe Neymar remains committed to the cause.

And, furthermore, they believe he’s become a leader as the club hunt the Champions League trophy they covet so badly.

While that’s the case, however, PSG could lose Kylian Mbappe.

The France international was utterly sublime on Wednesday night, scoring twice as Bayern were beaten 3-2 at the Allianz Arena on a snowy night in Germany.

And Mbappe is now ready to leave the club, with Real Madrid appearing to be frontrunners in the race to secure his signature.

PSG sporting director Leonardo opened up on both players after the victory over Bayern, and insisted the Ligue 1 champions were hopeful of coming to an agreement.

“We will be happy to have talks about contracts too,” he said.

“I think we’ll have some news that will make us all happy soon, but we’ll see.

“We’ll get to a more concrete situation with them soon, but now we have to focus on the competition as we are entering the final stage.”

Meanwhile, speaking last year, Lionel Messi expressed a belief that Neymar regretted leaving Barcelona behind and would love to return.

“It bothered me at the time [when Neymar left] and we tried to convince him not to do it,” he said.

“But we all want to win and have the best players around us.

“He’s one of the best players in the world and he brought a lot to the team. But it’s understandable that people would see it as leaving in a bad way.”

“He is desperate to return and has always appeared to regret his decision.

“He did a lot to come back and that would be the first step in making it happen. He was always fine at Barca, performing at a very high level. He’s a different type of player who is difficult to stop one-on-one and score goals.”

PSG are next in action against Strasbourg on Saturday (4pm).

And they’ll be looking to boost their chances of Ligue 1 title glory, having lost 1-0 to Lille over the weekend.
