Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny tests positive for coronavirus while on Egypt duty

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has tested positive for coronavirus while on Egypt duty, according to his agent.

Elneny has been away with his country and has contracted the disease, meaning he will need to enter a period of self-isolation.

The 28-year-old played against Togo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.

His agent Alan Nazmy posted on Twitter : "Elneny Positive Cov19 get well soon."

It means Elneny is likely to miss Arsenal's trip to Leeds on Sunday, as well as their Europa League clash at Molde next week.

The Gunners then host Wolves in the Premier League before taking on Rapid Vienna at the Emirates. The first north London derby of the season is away at Tottenham, likely on December 6.

Elneny's international teammate Mohamed Salah also picked up Covid-19 while away with Egypt.

Salah is currently in quarantine while he waits to discover when he will be allowed to travel back to Merseyside.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health's Covid-19 committee chief Hossam Hosny said: "Salah is currently in El-Gouna to complete his quarantine and he will conduct another PCR test on Thursday, and I expect that his result will be negative because until now, the player hasn't shown any symptoms.
