Arsenal: Arteta reacts to 1-0 win over Brighton
Arsenal have reportedly made a ‘request’ to sign Roma defender Roger Ibanez. The Brazilian is currently on loan from Atalanta and enjoying an impressive season in Serie A.
The 22-year-old has played in all 14 of Roma’s league games this season, with the Giallorossi sitting in the top-three of the division.
Ibanez joined Roma in January of this year, initially on loan, but that will become permanent if certain conditions are met.
However, reports in Italy have suggested that the Gunners are one of a number of Premier League clubs looking at the central defender.
Mikel Arteta made a defensive move in the summer window, signing Gabriel Magalhaes for £25million from Lille.
And while he has impressed, the Gunners have still struggled for results in the first half of the season, currently finding themselves in the bottom half.

Calciomercato report that along with Arteta’s side, Leicester and Everton have all been in contact about a potential transfer.
The report suggests that Ibanez would cost at least €30-35million, a significant boost from the €8m fee inserted in the deal between Atalanta and Roma.
Premier League champions Liverpool have also been linked with Ibanez as Jurgen Klopp looks to solve his own defensive issues at Anfield.
As for the Gunners, following two successive wins over the Christmas period, the pressure on Arteta has eased somewhat.
But the Spaniard has admitted those positive results won’t change their long-term plans for the upcoming January window, with Arsenal linked with a number of targets.

“The last few results won’t change our approach to the window,” Arteta said in his post-match press conference at the Amex.
It is believed the focus of Arsenal’s window will surround adding extra creativity to a squad that have managed just 16 goals in their opening 16 Premier League matches.
Real Madrid superstar Isco is one name that has been touted as a potential target, although the Arsenal boss refused to comment on any speculation.
“Obviously we cannot talk about individual players,” he said.
The win over Brighton at the Amex, their second in a matter of days, helped Arsenal move further clear of the relegation zone, with sights now firmly set on starting 2021 in a richer vein of form.
And Arteta was quick to acknowledge just how important putting a run of results together would be for his players.
“We know we’ve been struggling with results,” he told Amazon Prime Video.
“The fact we won against Chelsea was a big boost. To come here and get another win was massively important.
“I’m proud for the boys and happy for the result. [Alexandre] Lacazette is in a good moment. He’s full of confidence. We wanted to change the team in the second half and give it some freshness.
“We weren’t threatening in certain areas. In the second half we looked much more confident and we were playing more forward.
“The best medicine is wins. It’s a different world and a different story. The picture looks much better.”
