Arsenal icon Ian Wright cracks Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang contract joke after Fulham win

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang agreeing a new contract would be the best signing Arsenal could make this summer, according to club legend Ian Wright. Arsenal are close to announcing Aubameyang’s contract extension, and will reportedly give the forward a deal worth up to £300,000-per-week.

Arsenal started their Premier League season off with a bang on Saturday.

The Gunners ran riot at Craven Cottage and smashed newly-promoted Fulham 3-0 in a one-sided riot.

Aubameyang grabbed the third goal of the afternoon as he cut inside and smashed into the top corner of the net to finish the game.

The goal was the finishing touch on a brilliant display – and a brilliant team move, as they worked the ball out from the back with some fancy quick passing.

The striker has been in talks with Arsenal chiefs throughout the summer over a new contract, with Gunners fans left waiting.

And speaking on Match of the Day, Wright urged the club to get the deal over the line.

He joked that he was going to see Aubameyang on Sunday and wouldn’t leave until he put pen to paper.

Wright said: “He’ll be their best signing.

“They have to sign that guy.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta insisted after the game that there were no issues with the contract extension, and hinted at an announcement in the coming days.
