Arsenal eye two more transfer deals as Alex Runar Runarsson move edges closer

Arsenal could be in for a busy few weeks as they look to wrap up a couple more transfer deals this summer.

The Gunners yesterday lost Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa after his impressive spell last term.

But Alex Runar Runarsson is set to replace the outgoing stopper between the sticks, with his Arsenal expected to be finalised at some point this week.

Mikel Arteta may not be finished just there, however, as the Spaniard eyes two more midfield additions before the October 5 transfer deadline.

And according to the Daily Mirror, Atletico Madrid ace Thomas Partey and Lyon star Houssem Aouar are the top of his wishlist.

Partey has been a long-term target for the north London side, with Atletico happy to sell this summer.

The player is not willing to push for an exit, however.

Aouar may have featured for Lyon for the final time after he was sent off for the club on Monday in the defeat against Montpellier.

The central midfielder wore the armband for the clash but continues to be on Arteta's watchlist.

Earlier this week, the manager confirmed the club are still “active” in the transfer market.

He said: “We are looking at different options. I would say we are active in the transfer market with players in and out.

“At the moment the squad balance is not the ideal we want to achieve so there is still some work to do.”

Brentford keeper David Raya has also been linked with a move to the Emirates, but a move for Runarsson looks an easier one to complete.

Dijon have set an asking price of just £1.5million, with reports claiming he has completed a medical ahead of a transfer.

According to Icelandic outlet 433, he underwent checks at the weekend and will sign a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Runarsson has already incurred the wrath of Arsenal fans across social media, after a series of foul-mouthed tweets about Wenger emerged.

Back in 2011, Runarsson posted: “Arsene Wenger is a little too stupid!” Before hashtagging “French F***”.

In further Tweets, the keeper says: “Arsene Wenger is definitely the dumbest man on this planet,” before repeating the expletive filled hashtag.

The posts were quickly deleted once they came to light, but it could mean a frosty reception for Arteta’s latest recruit, if a deal is completed.
