Antoine Griezmann has insisted Atletico Madrid struggled to deal with Mason Greenwood during their 3-3 draw with Getafe.
The two teams played out a pulsating LaLiga clash at the Metropolitano on Tuesday night, with Getafe scoring two late goals to secure a point after they had gone 3-1 down.
Griezmann netted twice, equalling Atletico’s all-time scoring record of Luis Aragones with 173 goals, but it wasn’t enough for the three points.
And the French forward – who is enjoying a stunning campaign with 16 goals in 23 games – pointed to the Man United loanee as the reason why Atletico failed to hold on.
‘Mason Greenwood was really causing us problems in the second half, Griezmann said post-match. ‘We couldn’t stop him and it cost us the game.’

Greenwood was shipped out on loan to Getafe in the summer after it was mutually agreed he would play no further role at Old Trafford.
This came after criminal allegations against him of attempted rape, assault and coercive control were dropped. The 22-year-old denied all the charges.
His move was widely criticised but Greenwood has been well-supported by Getafe and their fans since his arrival.
The forward – who last played for Man United in a Premier league game against West Ham on January 22 2022 – has three goals and four assists in 14 LaLiga games.
And Getafe boss Jose Bordalas also praised Greenwood after the draw with Atletico.
He added: ‘I said it from day one, he is a fantastic player and he would reach his best level little-by-little, (and) we have treated him really well. The whole team played a great game.’
In the pulsating encounter, Atletico were reduced to 10 men after 38 minutes when Stefan Savic was sent off for two yellows, before Griezmann put them ahead when he poked home from Rodrigo Riquelme’s cross.
The in-form Borja Mayoral – who is LaLiga’s second top scorer with 12 goals – equalised just after half-time when he pounced on a rebound.

Alvaro Morata regained the lead for the hosts, with Griezmann then making it 3-1 from the penalty spot on 69 minutes.
However, Getafe refused to back down and pulled a goal back three minutes from time through Oscar Rodriguez, before Mayoral netted a stoppage time penalty.
The result left Atletico third, nine points off top-of-the-table Girona, while Getafe sit eighth, just four points from the European places.
Greenwood is contracted at United until 2025, although he is not expected to play for the club again.
