Al-Hilal’s ‘return stronger’ graphic for Neymar leaves footy fans bewildered
Football fans couldn't stop laughing at Al-Hilal's graphic announcing Neymar's injury.
The Saudi Pro League side had to announce the news that their Brazilian winger had torn his ACL and meniscus during a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay on Tuesday (October 17) – a particularly painful blow considering they're paying him £130million a year.
He's booked to undergo surgery and at the age of 31, a lengthy spell on the sidelines well into 2024 is set to follow. Hilal's media team didn't quite strike the right tone with their social media post though.

Along with the update, they shared a graphic which included a picture of Neymar screaming in agony and clutching at his left leg after the injury, which was placed in the foreground of a black and white shot of him with his head in his hands while on the stretcher.
As well as the message "return stronger", it also included the club's badge and as many as 12 of their sponsors – seemingly trying to recoup some money from his £78m transfer while they can.
One fan responded: "I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a club announce their star player’s ACL injury with an actual picture of him getting injured…until now."

A second commented: "Neymar's done his ACL which could very well mean the end of his career at any serious level. His club, Al Hilal, have gone with *this* graphic and I'm dying."
"They've done Neymar dirty with this graphic," argued a third, while a fourth wrote: "Haha f***ing hell…and anyone is supposed to take these teams seriously. What an absurd graphic that is!"
A fifth posted: "This graphic is unintentionally hilarious. Neymar out there dying on the pitch, but the club's already got their positivity vibes out." And a sixth joked: "Really pleased with how my first day as Al Hilal's Lead Graphic Designer went. Lots of engagement and positive feedback."
Neymar himself was trying to stay positive in the aftermath of the injury on international duty, taking to Instagram and writing: "This was the verse I posted before I left.
"In his heart man plans his way But the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9 God knows all things… All honour and glory is always yours my God, no matter what you say I HAVE FAITH."
He's likely to miss the remainder of the season and faces a battle to be fit for next summer's Copa America. It gets underway in the United States next June, which could come too soon for him.
