Manchester United's Old Trafford could look like a stadium transformed if new owners takeover the club in the near future.

Earlier this year, the club was put up for sale by their owners, the Glazers, with Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who owns INEOS, mooted as potential buyers for United. But, recently the Glazer family opted to take the club off the market, which had led to Sheikh Jassim pulling out of his takeover attempt, opening up a path for Ratcliffe.

Despite being the biggest stadium in the Premier League by a considerable margin however, United's Old Trafford has certainly seen better days. While still impressive in size, the ground is falling apart, which fans angry at the lack of care the Glazers have shown towards the ground.

However, Daily Star Sport has taken a look at some AI renditions of a revitalised Old Trafford, which could see United turning out at a rejuvenated 100,000 seater stadium. The ground currently holds 74,310, but could be improved if the Sir Alex Ferguson stand is raised to match the height of the other three stands.

Of course, building a new stadium entirely would represent a massive outlay in finances and resources which would prove difficult. But ultimately, an impressive, modern stadium is just one example of how a club can show off their ambition.

While Ratcliffe's bid to buy the club looks to be in the form initially of a 25% stake in United, which will set him back £1.3billion, it is apparent the iconic ground needs work done to it sooner rather than later. The AI images also show just how intimidating four raised stands could be for opposition teams, with 100,000 fans, minus away supporters, all roaring Man United on to success.

However, one former footballer who has previously stated he would actually be in favour of demolishing Old Trafford, and then building upon its site, is ex-United defender Gary Neville.

"There is a story emerging from Old Trafford that they might rebuild the entire stadium and I have just been asked what I think of it," Neville said last year on an Instagram Live.

"I actually think that it would be the right move. I think by the time that they have spent money on Old Trafford, the existing one, then I think you would be better off building a brand new, better, super stadium. I do think that Manchester United should always be at the forefront of stadiums, have the best facilities and they have fallen behind."
