Peter Nankivell will succeed Jeff Kennett as Hawthorn president after a twist in the process to find a successor to the Hawks’ outspoken boss.
Nankivell, a Kennett ally, had been the chair of the nominations committee to find the next president, but was put forward for the role by other committee members after it was determined no suitable candidate could be found.

Nankivell is a senior lawyer who played a role in the club’s exit from pokies this year. He was voted in unanimously by the Hawks’ board and will start the job in December.
Director Ian Silk, who had been endorsed by prominent supporters group Hawks For Change, did not nominate for president.
