Toto Wolff’s wife annoyed at every F1 driver bar Lewis Hamilton and Russell

Susie Wolff has claimed that it is ‘a shame’ that only Lewis Hamilton and George Russell come to support the F1 academy racers after the series joined the F1 support line-up for the United States Grand Prix.

Hamilton has been an avid supporter of the W Series and F1 Academy causes, regularly stopping by in their respective paddocks on race weekends to talk to the drivers and show his support.

This support was ramped up even more this weekend as F1 Academy’s final round of the season was added to the United States GP support card with all four sessions set to be broadcast live for the first time this year.

Hamilton posted short, individual videos from all 15 drivers to his Instagram story, showcasing their talent and introducing them to his massive audience of 34.9 million followers.

Speaking about the lack of support from the rest of the grid this weekend, Wolff told Sky Sports F1: “It’s a little bit sad that it’s always Lewis. He’s always the one offering support, coming over and really, because I think in the end, he knows what it’s like to be the only one and so he has an affinity.

“But there’s going to be the 10 F1 teams with their own livery, so I expect a lot more interaction from the F1 teams generally next season because they have the platforms, they have the voices and I think that’s something which will be hugely helpful because this is not a short-term project. If we want to see success, it’s got to be long term.”

Hamilton wasn’t the only driver to show his support for the F1 Academy cause in Austin with Mercedes team-mate Russell making the effort to visit their paddock and chat with the 15 drivers. Esteban Ocon also turned out, watching from the pit lane during qualifying on Friday.

Saturday’s race, which is the first of two in Austin this weekend, saw the first-ever F1 Academy champion crowned as Marta Garcia fended off Alpine junior driver Abbi Pulling to mark her title with a victory.

2024 will mark another step forward for the series, which aims to get more female drivers progressing through the feeder series ranks. All ten F1 teams will have at least one driver on the grid from their development programs.
