Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has warned Formula 1 fans to not put too much on pressure on Mick Schumacher to follow in the footsteps of his father Michael. The son of the seven-time world champion will drive for Haas in his first season in the pinnacle of motorsport.
He enjoyed a remarkable season last year, winning the Formula 2 world championship with Prema Racing.
That championship followed his win in the Formula 3 European championship in 2018, where he notched eight victories.
Schumacher then joined the Ferrari Academy, with his success in the junior categories earning him a seat with Haas.
Mick will also become the first Schumacher to compete in F1 since his father retired for a second time in 2012.

Michael’s time in the sport was record-breaking, with the German driver picking up seven driver’s world championships, 91 wins and 155 podiums.
He originally retired before the 2007 season, before returning to drive under Wolff at Mercedes, with his final podium coming in the 2012 European Grand Prix.
Though his son has enjoyed great success in the junior categories, the step up to Formula One is notoriously tough.
And his father’s former boss has now cautioned fans to give Schumacher time to settle at Haas.

“You have to leave Mick alone a little, he has an apprenticeship year ahead of him,” Wolff told Speedweek.
“He is certainly an asset to Formula 1, but you have to give him time to gain a foothold in this environment.”
Helping Schumacher will be the fact that Haas will most likely be competing at the back of the midfield pack, having suffered several challenging seasons.
They finished ninth in the constructor’s world championship last season, with drivers Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean finishing in the points just twice.
Schumacher will also be up against another rookie as a team-mate, with Nikita Mazepin also joining Haas from Formula 2.
He got his first drive in a Haas car in the season-ending young driver test in Abu Dhabi in December last year, where he completed 125 laps in their 2020 challenger.
Haas are yet to reveal their car for 2021, although new regulations mean that much of the car will remain the same as last season’s.
The teams will head to Bahrain for the only pre-season test between 12 and 14 March, before the season kicks off with the Bahrain Grand Prix on 28 March.
