Brundle mistakes basketball star for NFL player in Miami GP gaffe
Martin Brundle could be in for a hugely awkward Las Vegas Grand Prix two weeks after he refused Machine Gun Kellyâs request to play the air guitar. A whole host of A-List celebrities are expected to descend on Sundayâs Nevada race, with David Beckham, Shaquille O’Neal and Kylie Minogue said to be among them.
Brundle is well-known for his pre-race grid walks, where he roams the grid and speaks to drivers, celebrities and other notable figures he can track down. And he will be under the spotlight more than usual this weekend in the United States.
According to the Daily Mail, musicians John Legend, Tiesto and will.i.am are set to perform at the event, while celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay will be making meals trackside. Itâs unknown whether any of those will make themselves available for an interview with Brundle, but there will be plenty of other stars who will be more than happy to give their thoughts to the Sky Sports reporter.
Brundle is a seasoned campaigner when it comes to interviewing celebrities and wonât be fazed by the prospect of speaking to some of the worldâs biggest stars. But he will be looking to avoid a repeat of his interaction with Machine Gun Kelly.

Brundle approached the singer, whose real name is Colson Baker, ahead of the South American race and welcomed him to the grid. After an unbearable pause, Machine Gun Kelly replied: âI have no idea what you said, but thank you.â
The singer fondled the poppy the reporter was wearing ahead of Remembrance Day as he was told: âThatâs a poppy.â Brundle was then asked to repeat his second question after quizzing the singer about his career. âI donât think about my career, I donât think about it,â Machine Gun Kelly bluntly replied.
He later revealed his thoughts on the F1 business as he explained: âI think your business is great. Itâs loud, your lifeâs on the line – thatâs exciting. I was in a studio the other week and Lewis Hamilton was in the other studio. That was nice. Yeah, yeah.â

The interview appeared to be petering out, with the lack of chemistry between the two men patently obvious for all to see. But Machine Gun Kelly then questioned Brundle over his thoughts on the music business. And the 33-year-old twice asked the reporter to play the air guitar.
The request clearly didnât sit well with Brundle as he made his excuses. âNo I canât,â he replied. âNo there are millions⊠you do it. I canât do it, I canât do it.â And Brundle then added: âI probably need to get on because weâve got some people to see.â A frustrated Machine Gun Kelly proceeded to make a âthumbs downâ signal in front of the camera and ultimately walked away from the exchange.
