Lance Stroll to miss Singapore GP through injury after huge crash

Formula One star Lance Stroll will not take part in the Singapore Grand Prix with the Aston Martin driver still feeling the effects of his huge crash in qualifying on Saturday.

During the first part of qualifying at the Marina Bay street circuit, Stroll ran over the kerbs at the final corner, unsettling his car and sending him spinning into the barriers at around 150mph.

The crash destroyed much of the AMR23, but thankfully the Canadian driver was largely unhurt by the crash and was able to get out of his car unaided before heading to the medical centre.

Though the medical team passed him fit to race on Sunday, Aston Martin say the 24-year-old is ‘still feeling the after-effects’ on such a big impact and as sch they have collectively decided not to race.

‘Following Lance’s crash in qualifying during the Singapore Grand Prix, Lance and Aston Martin have jointly agreed that he will not participate in the Singapore Grand Prix this evening,’ a statement read just hours before lights out.

‘The team face a huge job repairing the car today and understandably Lance is still sore following such a high impact. Lance’s focus now shifts to fully recovering ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.’

Had he taken part in the race, Stroll would have lined up last on the grid, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz on pole position following a thrilling qualifying.
