Kimi Raikkonen told Martin Brundle he missed Pele at Brazil GP while pooping

The Brazilian Grand Prix has hosted a catalogue of famous Formula 1 moments down the years – not all of which are suitable for children.

And a lap hadn't even been completed when Kimi Raikkonen went down in the Sao Paulo history books. That's after the former McLaren and Ferrari driver gave a shockingly honest – and explicit – answer as to why he'd been absent for Pele's magic moment during the pre-race festivities.

The football icon and three-time World Cup-winner was presenting Michael Schumacher with the F1 Lifetime Achievement award in what was the final race of the season. Raikkonen was noticeably missing from the audience, however, and Martin Brundle regretted his decision to conduct some detective work over the matter.

"Yeah, I was having a s***," the Flying Finn told gridwalk legend Brundle when asked if he would get over missing a piece of sporting history. And it's a clip that remains a pat of F1 folklore to this day.

While the rest of the F1 paddock was paying its respects to Schumacher – who was set to retire (for the first time) after the race, Raikonned was answering nature's call. And as he himself would attest – when you've got to go, you've got to go.

It was hardly a positive precursor for the Scandinavian, who concluded a somewhat underwhelming finish to the 2006 season by placing fifth in Sao Paulo. Raikkonen was forced to retire from three of his last six races that year and ended up fifth in the drivers' standings overall.

Still, it didn't stop Ferrari from picking the Finn to replace Schumacher at Maranello the following season. And that turned out to be a fine appointment as Raikkonen won his only F1 world championship in his debut term with Ferrari.

The motorsport legend – who has also competed in NASCAR and the World Rally Championship – spent another 12 seasons in F1. He only signed off from the sport in 2021, bowing out with a host of records relating to fastest-lap and podium place tallies.

It's difficult to argue against the notion that Raikkonen's career comprised iconic moments and some of the best driving witnessed in the 21st century. However, it also contained its fair share of s***.
