NFL football is back for the first time since Super Bowl LIV, and the 2020 regular season – one that promises to be distinctly different in numerous ways as the league continues navigating the COVID-19 pandemic – will open with plenty of compelling subplots between the lines.
The Chiefs open their title defense Thursday night and will actually have thousands of fans in the Arrowhead stands when the Texans visit Kansas City for the third time since October.
The Washington Football Team returns with a new name, new look and new staff. The Patriots are hosting the Dolphins … with Cam Newton under center. The Bengals will start top draft pick Joe Burrow in the opener against the visiting L.A. Chargers, who will then get to watch the cross-town Rams unveil resplendent SoFi Stadium against the Cowboys on Sunday night.
But Week 1's main course will be served late Sunday afternoon, when Tom Brady makes his Buccaneers debut at the (empty) Superdome against Drew Brees' Saints, who seek a fourth consecutive NFC South crown.
