Disappointed. Hurt. Betrayed. These were just a few of the emotions fans felt at the end of Wisconsin’s 42-28 win over Wake Forest in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Wednesday.
The Badgers had the win well in hand, leading 42-21 as Wake Forest drove down the field in the final seconds. Cameras were fixed on Wisconsin players as they prepared to drench head coach Paul Chryst with a postgame victory bath in the big Duke’s Mayo Bowl jar. After the Demon Deacons scored a garbage time touchdown with six seconds remaining, the Badgers decided to go ahead and celebrate.
This was the moment fans were waiting for. The broadcast had been teasing a mayo bath the entire game, and that was the sole reason many fans had stayed tune in.
The only problem? There wasn’t any mayonnaise in the jar; it was just a water cooler.
Obviously, fans weren’t pleased.
Seeing a grown man take a mayo bath would have been the perfect way to end 2020. Alas, we’ll just have to wait until next year to see if Duke’s can right this wrong.
