Rams-Chiefs ‘MNF’ game has highest over/under in more than 30 years

Everyone expects a wild, high-scoring affair when the Rams and Chiefs meet Nov. 19 in Mexico City, but Vegas oddsmakers are putting an historic over/under line on the “Monday Night Football” game.

Want to bet on that? The SuperBook at Westgate Las Vegas opened the over/under at 64 points.

According to ESPN, if that line holds, it would be the highest since at least 1986, when the network began tracking betting information. The highest O/U since that time, 62, came in 2009 in a game between the Rams and 49ers. The Rams won that game, 34-24.

It would be tempting to rush out and bet the mortgage payment that the two teams will score more than that … and then some. The Chiefs (35.3 points per game) and Rams (33.5) are second and third in the NFL in scoring this season — the Saints are first at 36.7, thanks to a 51-14 win over the Bengals on Sunday.

But, there are several factors to consider.

The game site, Estadio Azteca, sits at 7,200 feet altitude, so picture poor Tyreek Hill running all those man-in-motion routes in that thin air. Add the exotic locale and the teams’ unfamiliarity with the stadium and who knows how that will impact the game.

In the NFL’s two previous trips to Mexico City, the Raiders beat the Texans 27-20 in 2016 and the Patriots defeated the Raiders 33-8 last year.
