The Giants (5-10) can still make the NFC playoffs with double-digit losses by winning the weak NFC East in Week 17. Regardless of that bad record, New York has a chance to host a wild-card round game as a No. 4 seed.
Once looking like the division favorites a month ago, three consecutive losses to the Cardinals, Browns and Ravens have made it come down to the 2020 NFL season finale. Here’s how the Giants win the East, in two easy steps:
1. Giants beat the Cowboys
By taking care of their own business, the Giants would improve to 6-10 while the Cowboys fall to 6-10. By avenging a Week 5 loss at Dallas, the Giants would improve their division record to 4-2 and eliminate the Cowboys, who would be only 2-4 in NFC East play.
2. Washington loses to the Eagles
Washington, with a loss to drop to 6-10 on Sunday night, would fall into a three-way tie with the Giants and Cowboys should the Giants win the earlier game. The Giants swept Washington, but here it’s about breaking a three-way tie.
The Giants would be 4-2 in NFC East play. Washington would be a game behind 3-3, while the Cowboys would be last at 2-4. As poorly as the Giants have played offensively in 2020, that’s how they can still get into the playoffs in the first season under rookie coach Joe Judge.
