Gardner Minshew wants to “make the most” out of his opportunity with the Jaguars after jumping into the starting lineup when starter Nick Foles suffered an injury in Week 1.
In just his second start since Jacksonville selected him in the sixth round (178th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, Minshew proved he can carry the Jaguars offense in what he called an opportunity “a lot of people never thought I would get.”
Jacksonville struggled with its run game adding only 19 yards rushing through three quarters, which meant it was up to Minshew to deliver. The rookie quarterback finished Thursday night completing 20 of 30 passes for 204 yards with two touchdown passes and he led two more scoring drives to give the Jaguars a 20-7 victory.
“A lot of people never thought I would get this opportunity, so now that I do have it, I gotta make the most of it,” Minshew told reporters. “I’m super grateful for it, but I know through everything I’ve learned in my career, with the situation I’m in, I know I may only get one, so you gotta make the most of it. So that’s what I’m trying to do now.”
