New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees did not return for the start of the third quarter in Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Saints announced Brees had suffered a rib injury and was listed as questionable to return. He was on the sideline with a helmet as the third quarter began.
Brees had been dealing with a right shoulder ailment in the last two weeks and took several big hits in the first half. He completed eight of 13 passes for 76 yards and one touchdown before exiting.
Jameis Winston, whom the Saints signed as a free agent this offseason, replaced Brees with the Saints up 17-10 on the 49ers.
