Amway Coaches Poll: Georgia moves into a tie at No. 5, seven new teams arrive in top 25

A weekend filled with upsets, some of which were more surprising than others, almost completely reshaped the Amway Coaches Poll. Seven teams that were unranked last week join the top 25, though the shuffling only had a slight impact on the upper echelons.

The top four teams remain the same, with Alabama continuing to hold a solid lead at No. 1. The Crimson Tide, who had the weekend off, once again claimed 61 of 64 first-place votes. Second-ranked Clemson retains the remaining three first-place nods following a decisive road win at Florida State.

Unbeaten Notre Dame holds steady at No. 3 after defeating Navy. LSU, which also had a bye heading into a huge home showdown with Alabama, remains fourth. Georgia, on the heels of its victory against archrival Florida, pulled into a tie for fifth with idle Michigan. Oklahoma, Ohio State, Central Florida and West Virginia round out the top 10.

Stock up: Utah. The Utes were the most notable beneficiaries of all the chaos, making the biggest move of the week with an eight-spot jump to No. 16.

Stock down: Texas. The Longhorns, the highest ranked of the upset victims, tumble eight places to No. 15.

Stock up: Washington State. The Cougars climb four positions to a season-high No. 11.

Stock down: Florida. The Gators only drop three spots to No. 14 after the loss to Georgia, but their SEC title hopes will have to wait at least another year.

Stock up: Penn State. For what it’s worth, the Nittany Lions are now the highest rated of the two-loss teams. They gain three positions to No. 13 after surviving against No. 18 Iowa.

Stock down: Washington. The Huskies fall six places to No. 19 after their damaging loss to California.

New kids on the block: No. 17 Houston, No. 19 Utah State, No. 21 Mississippi State, No. 22 Virginia, No. 23 Fresno State, No. 24 Syracuse, No. 25 Boston College.

College dropouts: Texas A&M, Wisconsin, South Florida, Oregon, North Carolina State, Stanford, Miami.
