The Mets lost to the Giants in dramatic fashion on Friday but came back to claim a huge win on Saturday at Oracle Park.
New York’s Dominic Smith misjudged a popup hit to left field in the 10th inning last game, and his error allowed San Francisco to score its only run of the game and claim a 1-0 victory. Smith also went 0 for 4 at the plate in that contest, but bounced back in a big way this time around.
Smith went 3 for 5 on Saturday and tallied four RBIs. It was a complete 180 from his previous performance.
And then there’s Pete Alonso, who has been in a hitting slump since winning the Home Run Derby. The first baseman was benched for rest in the contest but blasted a three-run homer in his lone at-bat as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning.
