Can Bryce Harper play first base? Yankees GM Brian Cashman: ‘I don’t know’

CARLSBAD, Calif. — If the Yankees don't have the space for Bryce Harper in the outfield, perhaps they can find room at first base.

Harper's agent, Scott Boras, said on SiriusXM radio that Harper could play first base for whichever team he signs with. While the Yankees' outfield is full, the team could use an upgrade at first base since Greg Bird and Luke Voit may not be strong options.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who has avoided commenting on free agents, did not reveal if the Yankees would consider Harper for first base.

“Do I think Bryce Harper can play first base? I don’t know," Cashman said. "Obviously he’s extremely talented and athletic.”

Cashman has been flooded with questions surrounding Harper and Manny Machado since the Yankees have the payroll flexibility to add either or both stars.

“We’ll assess everything in the market place and how it might fit us," he said.
