Winx’s half-sister Covent Garden wins maiden in first start for Peter Moody

A sibling of racing royalty stepped out at Pakenham on Tuesday and was too good for her rivals to notch up a maiden victory.

Covent Garden, a half-sister to the great mare Winx, was having her first start for trainer Peter Moody after formerly being in the care of Chris Waller and looked impressive when scoring under the guidance of Mark Zahra.

Zahra took the Exceed And Excel filly straight to the front and from there made every post a winner, holding off Miss Keeler get up by 1½ lengths.

"Covent Garden, related to royalty and she's going to break through." 👑

“She’s a lovely type of filly and she’s furnished out in the time that we have had her,” Moody said after the race.

“She is probably going to be a nicer mare in time.

“She’s a filly that showed good ability early and I think disappointed a bit. He (John Camilleri) was just hoping a change of scenery may have clocked her around a bit.”

Moody also indicated he would likely head towards a midweek metropolitan race with Covent Garden.
