Sheikh Mohammed made a rare public appearance in Newmarket on Wednesday to sanction the 1.5million guineas acquisition of a horse he hopes will one day kickstart a new era of Godolphin glory.
During a dramatic session, the Sheik’s bloodstock adviser Anthony Stroud made the winning bid for lot 240 — a young colt whose father Blue Point was a champion sprinter for Godolphin.
His siblings include Group One winners Battaash and The Antarctic, which is why there was such demand for him.
It is likely he will go into training with Charlie Appleby, Godolphin’s main trainer, who was part of the Sheik’s entourage.

The ambition is for him to become a Group class horse, capable of competing in the biggest races — something the organisation have desperately lacked this season.
Godolphin have gone without a winner at all the major summer festivals. Appleby has also suffered the frustration of seeing his best older horses — Modern Games, Adayar and Hurricane Lane — retired early to stud.
Sheik Mohammed did not get things all his own way in the sales ring as he lost a bidding war with rivals Coolmore for a 2m gns son of Frankel.
