Lap dancing club can now open at all Cheltenham race meetings – opposite church
A lap dancing club has been granted permission to open at every Cheltenham race meeting despite it's controversial location opposite a church.
Eroticats has proved to be a popular site for visitors and are set to become even more open to the public after their latest victory to be open at every Cheltenham race meeting. The company are allowed to operate as a luxury tea and coffee house by day, before transforming into a fantasy cocktail bar with seven themed rooms at night.
While the strip club already operates during the town’s four-day jumps festival in March, they've now been granted permission to open for six extra meetings including one before Christmas, and on New Year’s Day.

The Cheltenham Festival is attended by a quarter of a million people and brings huge amounts of business to the town. However, the decision regarding Eroticats has not gone down well with locals who've publicly condemned the club's location opposite a church as well as its proximity to children.
Cheltenham's Tory MP and Minister for Justice Alex Chalk said: "Locating a sexual entertainment venue near to residential properties where children can be expected to come and go would be wholly inappropriate."

While one Eroticats performer was wholly complimentary of the company, calling it "the most organised, safe and enjoyable company to work with", they haven't been short of criticism with Alwyn Barry who is the senior pastor of Cambray Baptist Church opposite the venue, noted that councillors "had no idea how deeply hurtful" of it's closeness to the place of worship.

While more than 35 people objected to Eroticat's increased opening times, there were 49 letters in support of it as the council’s David Willingham said the activity of the club is legal. "The activity is lawful and licensing exists to make it safer," he said. "The council cannot take a moral stance on the activity."
