Activation books spot in Country Championships Final after winning at Coonamble

Trainer Kody Nestor maintains Activation will enjoy the roomier Royal Randwick track for the $500,000 Country Championships Final after a stunning win at Coonamble on Tuesday.

Activation secured a start in rich Randwick race on April 3 when he unleashed a tremendous surge from near last on the turn to win the $150,000 Western Racing Association Country Championships Qualifier (1400m) on the tight turning Coonamble track.

“He does a few things wrong but he has a real good turn of foot,’’ Nestor said of Activation.

“Although he doesn’t have the best racing pattern the Randwick track will really suit him.’’

Activation ($7), ridden by Ben Looker, finished strongly to win by just over a length from the Kylie Kennedy-trained Wild Rocket ($4).

Both the winner and runner-up secure starts in the Country Championships Final.

Hot favourite Jailbreak ($1.95), a stablemate of Activation, looked likely to score when he dashed clear in the straight but 1400m tests his stamina reserves and he was run down near the line, finishing third.
