Robert MacIntyre appeared worse for wear as Europe’s Ryder Cup star boarded a £102 Jet2 flight home after partying into the early hours in Rome.

MacIntyre had enjoyed a memorable Ryder Cup debut at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.

The 27-year-old earned 2.5 points to Europe’s total over the weekend, earning a fourball win and beating Wyndham Clark in his singles match.

MacIntyre’s performances helped Europe secure a 16.5 to 11.5 win over the Americans to reclaim the Ryder Cup, before the Scot led the team’s celebrations.

The Ryder Cup Europe account made a cheeky joke at MacIntyre’s expense on social media after the celebrations.

The Scottish star admitted he would never forget the moment after a dream Ryder Cup debut

One picture showed MacIntyre waving his cap and holding a bottle of beer while on board their team bus.

The second showed the aftermath as the sleep deprived star queued to board his budget flight back to Glasgow the following morning.

Both photos were accompanied by the caption ‘Morning after the night before.’

MacIntyre and Shane Lowry had reportedly mostly led the singing during the celebrations, which went on until 4.30am in the Italian capital on Monday.

The Scot had been recorded performing a rendition of the Proclaimers ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’, with Lowry claiming he had been ‘on fire’ on the team bus.

‘The bus was probably the best part of the night. Bobby Mac was on fire,’ Lowry said.

‘You get so many tough days in golf that when you get a day like that it is amazing to be around friends and enjoy it with them.

‘I feel like this week, this tournament, it is probably why I do my job to be honest.

Fans were quick to label MacIntyre as a ‘humble hero’ after returning to Scotland on the budget airline, despite playing a key role in Europe’s success.

The 27-year-old had admitted after Europe’s victory that he would ‘never forgot’ the moment, adding that he had learned so much from his team-mates.

‘It was nerve-wracking. It was everything. I trusted myself and the guys around me,’ MacIntyre told BBC Radio 5 Live.

‘These finishing holes are tough so just about trying to get your point and see what happens. Thankfully we finished it off.

‘It’s incredible. This is a completely different team from a few years ago. The top guys are absolutely solid and stalwarts on the PGA Tour.

‘For me being in that team with these guys, I have learned so much.

‘I am never going to forget this for rest of my life.’
