KFC SuperFooty TV: Join Michael Warner, Jay Clark and Jack Watts for all the latest footy news

There has been no bigger surprise packet in 2021 than the Sydney Swans.

Listed as a $5 chance just to make the finals at the start of the season, the Bloods are now knocking on the door of the top four and are considered a genuine contender come September.

On field, it is the young Swans who are drawing the majority of praise, with the likes of Nick Blakey, Tom McCartin, Sam Wicks and Logan McDonald just some of the rising stars who could keep this group contending for years to come.

But on this week’s episode of KFC SuperFooty TV, the panel of Jay Clark, Michael Warner and Jack Watts paid tribute to the other driving force behind Sydney’s surprise season.

Their often underrated coach John Longmire.

“If there was any doubt why North Melbourne threw the absolute kitchen sink at this coaching great, we are seeing it at the moment,” Clark said.

“He is at the absolute peak as a coach right now I feel.

“To have somehow steered Sydney to a win at the weekend in the circumstances … I’m just always so impressed by this man.

“We put Clarko (Alastair Clarkson) on a pedestal, we put Damian Hardwick and Chris Scott on a pedestal, I think he doesn’t get the recognition and accolades he deserves.”

Currently occupying sixth on the ladder, the Swans have a dream run home and will play just one top eight side over the final five rounds.

But are they good enough to go all the way in 2021?

“I’m not completely sold on them,” said Watts.

“Obviously it was a great win and those sorts of wins can propel you forward a lot of the time.

“I still just think they’re a bit young to compete with the Bulldogs, Melbourne and Geelong. In big games, even against a Port Adelaide in a final, I reckon they might come up short.”

Also on this week’s episode the guys looked at the latest Covid news, hubs, Sam Walsh and named their top three players.
