Are there rules in fights without rules

Now Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is quite a decent sport, its broadcasts are popular on TV in many countries, athletes are generally recognized, professional and loved. But not so long ago, in the 90s. of the last century, it was called “fighting without rules”, existed in a semi-legal position.

And if now bets on fights are made through reliable betting applications, in which kirish in your personal account is maximally protected, then everything was different then. Only “black” sweepstakes worked, where you had to get a big win at the risk of your life.

What is “mixed martial arts”

This is how the current name MMA is translated. That is, all types of martial arts are used in the ring, you can use any tricks. Moreover, fights are full-contact. Representatives of various sports became champions of UFC tournaments: kickboxing and classical boxing, sambo, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, etc.

At first, the competition was like a street fight: bare fists, no time limits, i.e. until someone falls or gives up. But with the growth of popularity and legal status, a lot has changed.

Rules appeared in “fights without rules”

  • Meetings are held in arenas and rings adapted for them (all requirements for them are stipulated)
  • Fights last no more than 3 rounds of 5 minutes with a break of 1 minute. Championship bouts – up to 5 rounds
  • 9 weight categories are allocated

Victory is awarded after physical / verbal submission, knockout (KO and TKO), by points.

Since mixed martial arts has moved into the category of professional sports, a number of standard prohibitions have been introduced:

  • beat with the head, elbows, knees;
  • attack the eyes, groin, neck, spine;
  • twist small joints, pinch, tear anatomical holes or wounds;
  • hit a lying opponent in the head or stomp on him;
  • spitting, biting, grabbing hair, insulting and humiliating an opponent, etc.

As in any normal sport, the official sweepstakes began to work, betting companies began to issue quotes and forecasts. Now a winning bet on a fight has ceased to be an element of increased risk, moving into the category of quite ordinary events for bookmakers.

Of course, MMA has acquired a touch of theatricality, but the battles are still going in full contact, which excites the audience. But the introduction of the rules has become a real protection of the health and life of athletes.
