Boomers out to snap 13-year streak

Australia will look to cause the upset when they take on Team USA in the first of two games under the roof at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.

Despite not being stacked with the biggest names in the NBA, Team USA bolster a decent squad that will be more than a handful for the Boomers to deal with.

If they're to pull off the upset it will be Team USA's first competitive loss in over 13 years. That's right, 13 years!

Their last loss came back in the 2006 FIBA World Championship semi-finals at the hands of Greece who recorded the 101-95 victory.

For those hoping the Boomers can pull the upset tonight, just remember: it has been almost 13 years since Team USA lost a competitive game. Greece was the last team to beat them, defeating Team USA 101-95 in the Semi Finals of the FIBA World Championship on September 1, 2006.

That loss proved to be the spark that reignited Team USA's fire as the big names jumped back on board for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Australia head into Thursday's contest as the underdog and big man Aron Baynes says it'll take more than talent for them to topple the basketball powerhouse.
