England players set for £220k bonus if they retain Cricket World Cup
England players set for bumper £220,000 bonus EACH if they retain Cricket World Cup title in India next month… Dwarfing the £85,000-a-man picked up for winning Twenty20 crown last year
- England players are in line for £220,000 bonus if they win Cricket World Cup
- England begin defence of their title in India against New Zealand on October 5
- Delayed warm-up series against Ireland set to get underway on Saturday
England’s resting one-day players will each pocket a £220,000 payout if they successfully defend their World Cup title this winter.
Jos Buttler’s team are currently on leave – a shadow England side led by Zak Crawley will belatedly get a one-day series against Ireland under way at Trent Bridge on Saturday – but fly to India next week in the knowledge that retaining their double world champion status will come with a juicy bonus.
The ICC’s financial prize for the winning team dwarfs the £85,000-a-man picked up for claiming the Twenty20 World Cup crown in Australia 10 months ago. Simply reaching the final in Ahmedabad on November 19 guarantees the 15-man squad £110,000 apiece.
England are using the remaining two matches of the ODI campaign versus the Irish – the opener was infuriatingly washed out in Leeds on Wednesday – to expose players to the format who might come into consideration for the next four-year World Cup cycle.
Those include Crawley and his regular Test opening partner Ben Duckett, as the selectors actively seek to increase the crossover between the red-ball and white-ball teams.
England players could be set to earn a bumper bonus of £220,000 each if they reatain the Cricket World Cup in India
England are currently holders of both the ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup, providing plenty of hope that they will be coming home with the cash in November
England’s first ODI against Ireland was called off after an infuriating washout at Headingley
It is understood both players are under consideration for multi-year central contract offers next month, although Duckett insisted his focus was on this match – his first at his Nottinghamshire headquarters as an England player.
‘It’s certainly not negative, it kind of gives you a bit of security, and it’s great that they’re offering these contracts. The security of players wanting to keep playing for England is perfect,’ he said.
‘For me the main thing is walking out and representing my country, it’s not really a contract – that’s a bonus.’
England could hand out up to five debuts on Saturday, with Sam Hain, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Jamie Smith, Tom Hartley and George Scrimshaw all in the squad, and there is every chance those who impress will be asked to tour the Caribbean for three ODIs in December.
But Duckett, acting as Crawley’s vice-captain, said: ‘I’ve learned not to think far ahead. All I can control is myself. That’s what I’ve done the last three or four years and it’s potentially got me to where I am today.’

He is being ably assisted by his opening partner in the England Test team, Ben Duckett – who is acting as vice-captain
A number of England regulars have been rested for the series against Ireland, with new players being exposed to the ODI format ahead of the next World Cup in 2027
Meanwhile, Jason Roy has turned down the chance to feature in the two games against Ireland.
Roy was replaced in the 15-man World Cup squad by Harry Brook after missing all four tests of the recent ODI series victory against New Zealand, but has been offered a role as a reserve.
England selector Luke Wright admitted it was a ‘tough decision’ to leave out the experienced 33-year-old after he was included in a provisional squad of players that were ‘definitely’ going to the World Cup.
Wright has confirmed that Jofra Archer will be England’s only travelling reserve, and the fast bowler could feature in the latter stages of the tournament if his recovery from an elbow injury continues without any issues.
