Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana ranks joint-second in the Premier League for most expected goals saved, despite coming under intense pressure amid a series of difficult performances.

Onana was backed by United manager Erik ten Hag on Friday ahead of weekend trip to Newcastle and doubled down on his support of the club’s No.1.

However, some believe the Cameroonian should be dropped after individual errors in United’s midweek draw against Galatasaray left their Champions League ambitions in tatters.

But, there are reasons to be optimistic with Onana not only joint-top of the Premier League for the most clean sheets, but also impressing in the amount of expected goals saved.

Ten Hag claimed Onana was the ‘second-best goalkeeper’ in the English top-flight and a more in-depth look at certain statistics makes for positive reading for United supporters.

Luton’s Thomas Kaminski surprisingly tops the charts amid a brilliant run of form that has helped the promoted side jump out of the Premier League relegation zone.

Kaminski has saved 4.5 expected goals throughout the season so far and is the only keeper in the division to have breached the 4xG barrier.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Alisson ties with Onana on 3.4xG and has looked back to his best for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season as they threaten to mount a Premier League title charge.
