Former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle has urged Mauricio Sarri to have more faith in Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The midfielder, who was substituted on 83 minutes, produced an impressive performance as the Blues earned a valuable draw in the Europa League semi-final first leg at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Chelsea target Luka Jovic opened the scoring for the hosts before Pedro fired into the bottom corner on 26 minutes. However, Hoddle believes Loftus-Cheek was the star of the show at the Commerzbank Arena.

LOFTUS-CHEEK THIS SEASON

Appearances: 37 (22 as substitute)

Goals: 8

Assists: 5

‘I just think the manager has got to trust him more and more,’ said Hoddle on BT Sport.

‘There’s more to come from this lad by the way, we haven’t seen the best of him yet – if he’s given the shirt, if he knows the managers going to put him in on the big games, if he says you’re an eight for me, one holding player and two eights and you will be one of them.

‘There’s more to come, if he’s given the shirt, plays consistently. I think he’s frustrated, I see the frustration in his game, and then I think he can get back in the England team. He has such a frame. He might have to score more goals.’

The 23 year-old also caught the eye of BT Sport pundit and former Machester United star Owen Hargreaves.

‘I thought he was the best player on the pitch for Chelsea. Maybe he’s benefitting from the coaching, in the position, you always see him in those half positions now, with his frame he can take the ball in any position, I mean what is he, 6,3 6,4?

‘Technically he’s very good, he can drive. He can drive by people so effortlessly.

‘I think his overall play, his link up play, his intelligence, he was Chelsea’s best player.

‘I know he’s 23, but that was a mature performance in a semi-final against probably the best team they’ve played in the Europa league so far.’

Loftus-Cheek has made 37 appearances under Sarri this season, but 22 of those have come as a substitute.

Chelsea face Frankfurt in the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, April 9.
