Ronan O’Gara has denied that he has signed a contract with French club La Rochelle – but says that he has a number of options as he decides his coaching future.
Reports in France yesterday said that O’Gara was set to join the Top 14 side as backs coach on a three-year deal, bringing to an end a successful two-year spell with the Crusaders in New Zealand.
O’Gara previously spent four campaigns as an assistant coach with Racing 92 in Paris. As well as the link to La Rochelle, there has also be speculation of a possible return to Racing as well as joining up with Munster, who last week announced the departure of two assistant coaches in Felix Jones and Jerry Flannery.
Speaking to Off The Ball about his coaching future, O’Gara said that he will make a decision in the next two weeks.
“I’ve got to weigh up a few options,” he said.
“There’s some really tough decisions to make. So hopefully in the next 10 or 14 days there will be a decision. But nothing is done yet.”
“There are other options. There are two or three other options. It’s a great position to be in.
“There is a sporting decision to make and a family decision to make. And, I could stay with the Crusaders for another season.
“Crusaders have been very good and they have been very patient and I genuinely can’t make up my mind and I think they understand that.”
O’Gara also closed the door on a possible return to Munster as his next move.
“I have spoken to Munster but there is no serious conversation in terms of a coaching position because I don’t want to go down that route right now,” he said.
“If I am good enough I can get a job at home on my terms.”
