NHL trade news: Canadiens acquire Dale Weise, Christian Folin from Flyers

The Canadiens have acquired forward Dale Weise and defenseman Christian Folin from the Flyers for defenseman David Schlemko and forward Byron Froese, the Canadiens announced Saturday.

The Canadiens have acquired defenseman Christian Folin and forward Dale Weise from the Philadelphia Flyers.

This is Weise’s second stint with the Canadiens, having played 152 games over three seasons from 2013 to 2016 in Montreal. In 42 games for Philadelphia this season, Weise had five goals and six assists.

Weise’s best season to date was 2014-2015 when he posted career highs in 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) and plus-minus (plus-21) in 79 games for the Canadiens. Weise, 30, has 27 goals and 32 assists playing for Montreal.

Folin, 27, had two assists in 26 games this season for Philadelphia, averaging 15:33 of ice time. He is plus-5.

Schlemko, 31, who came to Montreal in an offseason trade from Vegas in 2017, had two assists in 18 games this season.

Froese, 27, signed by Montreal as a free agent in July 2017, had 14 goals and 16 assists with Laval of the American Hockey League this season. He appeared in 48 games with the Canadiens last season, recording three goals and eight assists in 48 games.

The NHL trade deadline is Feb. 25.
