Chargers’ Melvin Gordon won’t attend training camp without new contract

Melvin Gordon is taking a stand.

The Chargers running back has informed the team that he will not report to training camp without a new contract and will demand a trade if he doesn’t get one, his agent Fletcher Smith told ESPN.

Gordon, who is scheduled to earn $5.6 million in 2019, was at mandatory minicamp last month after sitting out voluntary workouts earlier this offseason, but was adamant that he still wanted a new deal.

“I would be lying if I said I didn’t want a deal, but that’s not going to stop me from coming out here,” Gordon said at the time, per the Los Angeles Daily News. “But we’re going to see … We’re talking right now and that’s kind of where I’m going to leave it.
