UFC star Mike Perry suffers gruesome nose injury in split decision loss

MMA fighter Mike "Platinum" Perry suffered a gruesome injury to his nose in a devastating defeat to Vicente Luque at UFC Fight Night 156.

The 27-year-old was left in a bloody mess after topping the bill in the co-main event in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Luque struck a damaging flying knee to his opponents face in the last minute of round three, busting Perry's nose open.

Blood poured onto the canvas as Perry's nose was left in a crooked mess following the blow in the welterweight clash.

The two fighters fell to the floor as Luque attempted to choke out American Perry, but failed to get him to submit.

It was left to the judges to decide on a winner, with Luque emerging victorious in a split decision.

The judges scored the fight 29-28, 28-29, 29-28 in favour of the Brazilian – also 27 – despite Perry landing more strikes on his opponent.

UFC president shared an image on social media of Perry's face in the aftermath of the brawl.

One aptly-named Twitter user, John Pain, wrote: "Whatever he gets paid… its not enough Dana."

Another added: "That's gonna be a bad wedding pic."

Perry may have been left with a horrific injury on top of his loss, but fans werre quick to praise the Michigan-born athlete.

Some also believed Perry was hard done by, with one fan stating: "Whatever fight you have next for Luque should go to Perry cuz (sic) Perry won that fight hands down. Look at 90% of what people are saying. Most think Perry won."

Perry wasn't the only fighter on the receiving end of a horror wound, as flyweight Raulian Piva also suffered a nasty gash above his right eye which required stitches.

Piva lost by TKO at the hands of Rogerio Bontorin and was patched up by medics once the fight had been concluded.
