The Angels are close to hiring Joe Maddon as their next manager to replace Brad Ausmus.
According to Bleacher Report, Maddon is expected to be announced as Los Angeles’ manager “a day or two” after his interview Monday. The report cites one source as saying, “It’s a fait accompli, isn’t it?”
MLB Network reported Maddon’s interview went “very well.” Not only is Maddon a front-runner to land the role, but Los Angeles is the manager’s first choice, as well.
The move would make sense considering Maddon spent a collective 31 years with the organization as a player and a coach, most recently as its bench coach from 2000-05. He then managed the Rays for nine seasons before serving as the Cubs’ skipper for five seasons.
